Roger Khan

Convicted Guyanese drug lord Roger Khan could be returned to Guyana if a request is made for him to give testimony at a Commission of Inquiry.

This is according to United States (US) Ambassador to Guyana, Perry Holloway who indicated that Guyana and the US are signatories to many international conventions that govern such matters.

Holloway indicated that for such to happen a request would have to be made to the US Government, after which it would be considered.

He said, “it quite certainly could be allowed if they rules and regulations allow it.”

The Ambassador maintained that such a move would have to be done within the framework of international rule of law.

The US .Federal Bureau of Prisons says Khan is expected to be released in 2019.

One of the campaign promises of the campaign promises of the APNU+AFC government was an Inquiry into extra-judicial killings. Khan had said in paid advertisements in a section of the media that he had helped prevent the then People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPPC) administration from being toppled.

It is suspected that Khan who had linkages to high ranking members of the former PPP Government played role in some of those crimes during the 2002-2005 crime wave.

Khan was caught on June 15, 2006 in neighbouring Suriname and transferred to Trinidad where federal agents snatched and took him to the US for trial.

In 2009, he was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for drug trafficking and witness tampering.
