Search continues for farmer missing in collision with Coast Guard vessel

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) was Thursday continuing its search for a man who went missing following a collision between his boat and a Coast Guard vessel on the Pomeroon River.

The army also said in a statement that a probe has been launched into the incident that occurred Wednesday, June 25, 2015.

Missing is Orton Benjamin who is a farmer.

The GDF said the search includes specialist equipment and the services of divers. “The Guyana Defence Force deeply regrets this unfortunate incident and will remain engaged in the search for Mr Benjamin until he is recovered,” said the GDF in a statement.

Chief of Staff, Brigadier Mark Phillips has ordered a probe into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The GDF said it was in contact with Benjamin’s family and pledged to “provide them with all necessary assistance during this difficult time.”
