Geologist shot during robbery at his private business

A senior Geologist at the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) was shot and injured during a robbery at his privately-owned business.

He is Gordon Nestor. Police said he was shot to his left foot during the incident and has been admitted to hospital. He was later discharged.

Investigators were told that at about 10:20 AM Saturday June 20, 2015, two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, entered an Internet Café and Western Union Outlet at Duncan Street, Georgetown.

There, police said, the bandits held up the proprietor Nestor, 52 years, and staff member Fernandes Ally, 18 years, of East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, and took away over $400,000.00 and escaped in a waiting motor car.

Investigations are in progress.
