A beginners training programme in aeronautical engineering being offered by a Caribbean-wide recognised school will soon be accredited nationally and upgraded to an Associate Degree, according to the Ministry of Education.

The decision was made during talks between the Chief Executive Officer of the Art Williams and Harry Wendy Aeronautical Engineering School, Capt. Malcolm Chan-a-Sue and the Minister of Education, Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine. Also participating in those talks was the Executive Manager of the institution, Nalini Chanderban.

“The Minister of Education indicated his willingness to assist in the facilitation of the institution’s accreditation process and as such, has committed to having the National Accreditation Council of Guyana work with the Aeronautical Engineering School to have its Completion Certificate made equivalent to an Associate Degree,” said the Ministry of Education in a statement.

According to the Ministry of Education, an accredited Associate Degree in Aeronautical Engineering could be used as an entry requirement for higher studies. “The School will continue to work with the University of Guyana and the National Accreditation Council to have its programme used as a prerequisite for a Degree in Aviation Maintenance,” said the  ministry.

The Art Williams and Harry Wendy Aeronautical Engineering School is certified and approved by the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority, the Trinidad & Tobago Civil Aviation Authority, the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Suriname, and the CARICOM arm of Aviation, Caribbean Aviation Safety & Security Oversight Systems. It is also certificated under the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Systems of the Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards.
