Man shot during shootout with police; three arrested

One man was shot and two others were caught unhurt during an exchange of gunfire with police at Stewartville Public Road Wednesday night.

He has been identified as Atiba Gardner, 39 years, of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo, and is under guard at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

Police also recovered one .32 revolver with five rounds and one spent shell.

Investigators said that at about 8:20 PM Wednesday, June 3, police intercepted a motor vehicle during which they came under fire from one of the men who were in the vehicle.

The police returned fire and he was hit to his body. An unlicensed .32 revolver with five rounds and a spent shell has been recovered by the police.

The two other men who were in the vehicle have been arrested and are in police custody assisting with the investigations. The motor vehicle has been detained.
