Elderly overseas-based Guyanese man shot, robbed; woman held

An elderly overseas-based Guyanese was Tuesday morning shot and robbed shortly after returning to Guyana through the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, police said.

Investigators said a woman has been arrested.

According to a police statement, about 9:30 AM (April 21, 2015), 83-year old Glednon Cadogan,

was shot and injured during an armed robbery at Shirley Field-Ridley Square, Georgetown.

“Investigations revealed that Glendon Cadogon had travelled from the CJIA and was confronted by three men, one of whom was armed with a firearm, who drove up in a motor vehicle as he was entering the yard,” police said.

The men held up Cadogan and demanded a bag that he had in his possession. He resisted and was shot to his abdomen and left arm. The perpetrators then escaped with the bag.

He has been admitted to hospital.
