Qualfon’s new call centre will employ thousands

Qualfon, a Mexican-headquartered call centre that serves companies around the world, on Thursday opened a US$12 million campus that would eventually see at least 6,000 jobs being generated.

The facility, the third by Qualfon in Guyana, is located at Providence, East Bank Demerara

“You have transformed lives by employing literally thousands of persons and improving their lives,” Finance Minister, Dr. Ashni Singh was quoted as saying by the Government Information Agency (GINA).

President Donald Ramotar said Qualfon’s decision to operate in Guyana is testimony to government’s pro-business approach by spending a huge chunk of the national budget on education to prepare workers.

“That is one of the ways that we partner with the private sector, local and foreign private sector,” he said, and added that while many spend money on training, the bulk of the investment in training and education comes from government,” he said.

Ramotar seized the opportunity to mention that government has begun putting a number of its services Online, a move that is also aimed at fighting perceptions of corruption.

The President noted that an India-funded Information Communications Technology (ICT) training facility at Providence.

Qualfon’s Guyana Chief Executive Officer, Mike Marrow and Founder and Chairman of Qualfon, Alfonso Gonzalez thanked government for facilitating their company’s investment over the past 10 years.
