Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission, Dr. Steve Surujbally on Wednesday announced that April 7, 2015 would be Nomination Day for political parties to officially declare their interest and submit their list of candidates for the May 11, 2015 general and regional elections.
He again brushed aside concerns about the involvement of the Guyana National Youth Council in GECOM’s public education drive that would target youths to come out in their numbers and vote.
Chief Elections Officer, Keith Lowenfield, meanwhile, announced that out of the Claims and Objections Exercise period there 3,800 new registrants and 6,900 transfers. “We are happy about that. It says to the Commission and to the Secretariat that the nation is responding to a request to be involved- all the processes require for the conduct of elections,” he said.
There are more than 500,000 eligible voters on the List of Electors.
