Ex-policeman shot while seated in parked car

An ex policeman was Monday morning- Mashramani- shot and injured on upper Regent Street, police said.

Initial reports are that Otis Grant,39, and someone else had an argument and shortly after shots rang out.

Police later said in a statement that Grant, of Beterverwagting East Coast Demerara, was sitting in a parked motor vehicle on Regent Street, Georgetown, when two men approached and discharged rounds at him.

The incident occurred about shortly after 5 AM on Regent Street just west of Shiv Chanderpaul Drive (New Garden Street).

Police confirmed that several spent shells were recovered from the scene, but no guns were seized. Eyewitnesses claimed that a man was seen with a gun in his hand.

Grant was among nine ex policemen who had been dismissed or interdicted from the Guyana Police Force.

Grant had been previously questioned by police in connection with a number of serious crimes.
