Attorney-at-Law, Sase Gunraj was Tuesday morning sworn in as an Elections Commissioner before President Donald Ramotar, having been nominated by the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPPC).

He replaces long-serving Commissioner Dr. Keshav ‘Bud’ Mangal who resigned from the post last month due to health reasons.

Gunraj was selected by the governing party, ending much speculation that  the replacement would have either former Chief Elections Officer, Gocool Boodoo or Attorney-at-Law, Bibi Shaddick.

Gunraj is one of the lawyers representing former President Bharrat Jagdeo in the libel case against Freddie Kissoon and the Kaieteur News newspaper.
