A Guyanese man late Wednesday afternoon allegedly drowned after he fell off a fishing vessel he was working on in neighbouring Suriname, relatives said.

He has been identified as 28-year old Rawle Henry.  His body has not been recovered.

A relative said that the incident occurred shortly after 5 PM, a few moments after he had spoken with his grandmother on the telephone.

Family members were told that Henry tripped on a rope and fell into a river.

Up to late Wednesday night, they were still awaiting further details from the neighbouring Dutch-speaking republic.
