Villagers at Letter Kenny Village, Corentyne woke up Monday morning to peace and calm following a night of violence that erupted after a young woman was knocked down and killed by a vehicle that might have been used by criminals.

Reena “Asha” “Ashmanie” Devi had just disembarked a minibus and was crossing the road when she was struck down by a wagon, PMM 3080, about 5 PM.

While the woman was receiving emergency treatment at the Port Mourant Hospital, Letter Kenny villagers became enrage after they found a toque, toy gun and several fake identification cards.

Despite the arrival of police on the scene, the villagers seized the vehicle, attempted to push it in a canal and later took it to vacant plot of land where the Letter Kenny Market was once located.

There, they torched the car, saying that too many accident occur on the public road and survivors do not receive justice. Fire fighters were summoned to extinguish the blaze but could not do so because the enraged residents threatened to damage the fire tender.

The angry residents then attempted to storm the Whim Police Station to see the driver of the wagon, but eventually they backed off.
