One dead, three critical in Corentyne accident

An elderly drunk pedestrian was killed and three persons, who were in a four-wheeled drive pick-up, were critically injured on the Alness Village Public Road, Corentyne.

Dead is 52-year old Roy De Souza, a labourer, of Alness Village. Those injured are the driver of the pickup, 19-year old Videsh Baboolall, his 17-year old brother Yudesh, and their employee whose only name was given as Priya. The Baboolalls are members of a rice industry family.

Demerara Waves Online News was told that the pick-up swerved from a car that was coming out from a dam and hit the pedestrian who was dancing on the road.

The speeding pick-up then ran off the road and slammed into a mango tree about 50 feet away.
