Brazil’s Vice Consul dies in collision in Lethem

Brazil’s Vice Consul to Guyana , Theotonio  Santa Cruz de Oliveira died Saturday morning following a vehicular collision in Lethem that also left the daughter of a top Region Nine official and her children in a critical conditon, multiple sources have confirmed.

Residents in the southern Guyanese township said the junior diplomat was driving the Vice Consulate’s car when it collided with another vehicle on the Lethem Main Road in the vicinity of T&M Bus Service. Police later said in a statement that he was driving his motor vehicle along the roadway at Lethem when he collided with a motor vehicle proceeding in the opposite direction that had allegedly veered into his driving lane.

de Oliveira,61, was immediately rushed to the Lethem Hospital and then transferred to a hospital in Bon Fim, Brazil where he succumbed to his injuries.

Listed in a critical condition are Kasslyn Singh and her one-year old son, Marcus Tacoordeen, who were in a tax, and Gracelyn Nicholson who was in the diplomat’s car. Singh is the daughter of the Region Nine Executive Office, Claire Singh.
