An elderly former hunter was shot dead and his firearm and outboard motor were apparently stolen, a family member said.
The decomposed body of 70-year old Osmond Fiedtkou of Groete Creek, Essequibo River was removed Sunday morning and taken to the Bartica Hospital for eventual transfer to Georgetown for an autopsy.
His body was found about two miles away from his home near Caria.
Relatives believed that he was killed some time last week because it was since then that his daughter, who lives in Georgetown, was unable to make contact with him by telephone.
A neighbour reported hearing screams during last week but did not pay much heed until his daughter called seeking help about the whereabouts of her dad.
