A caretaker for the Berbice Anjuman Orphanage in New Amsterdam has been granted GUY$200,000 bail for allegedly buggering an orphan when he was 13 years old.

Mohamed Deen of the Philadelphia Street-based orphanage was granted his pre-trial liberty when he appeared before New Amsterdam Magistrate, Sherdel Isaacs- Marcus. He has to return to court on July 14.

The accused was charged under the Sexual Offences Act with allegedly having sex with a minor by using his penis to penetrate the minor’s rear. Particulars of the offence are that at the time of the incident the minor was only 13 years old and the caregiver could not have thought that the minor was 18 years.

Defence Lawyer, Mursaline Bacchus said that based on his instructions, it was almost impossible for such an incident to have occurred.
