General Secretary of the Peoples Progressive Party (PPPC), Clement Rohee says he is preparing to appear before the Walter Rodney Commission of Inquiry in the coming weeks.

He declined to divulge the thrust of his memorandum to the three-member panel that has been set up to probe the circumstances that led to the death of Rodney, a renowned historian and co-founder of the Working Peoples Alliance (WPA), on June 13, 1980.

“He saw it all,” remarked Rohee when asked for a sneak preview into his presentation to the commission. “I’m still working on my evidence-in-chief,” he said.

Rodney was killed when a bomb-in-walkie-talkie, which was supplied by then Guyana Defence Force (GDF) electronics expert Sergeant Gregory Smith, exploded in his lower region while he was seated in a car on John Street, a short distance from the Georgetown Prison.

During cross-examination of WPA Co-leader, Eusi Kwayana , Peoples National Congress Reform (PNCR) lawyer , Basil Williams had sought to enquire whether the PPPC’s support-base had been threatened by Rodney’s multi-racial mobilization.
