Youths in court for alleged robbery with violence

Four youths accused of robbery with violence were Tuesday granted bail totalling GUY$150,000.

Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry ordered them to return to court on April 30.

They are accused of robbing Stephan Phillips of one Samsung Galaxy mobile phone and one gold chain with a total value of GUY$370,000.  The phone was found in possession of one of the men who were caught by a mobile police patrol unit as the alleged offences were being committed.

Phillips told police that he was lashed to his forehead by one of five men who attacked him as he was leaving Food Palace Restaurant, Hinck Street, Georgetown.

Police chased the men but one escaped. Those caught and charged were 23-year old Travis King, 19-year old Akeem Stanley of Golden Grove, 19-year old Curtland Stanley of Providence and Godfrey Lynch of Diamond Housing Scheme.

They pleaded not guilty to the offences.

The prosecution did not object to bail.
