BREAKING: Three critical in airplane crash in Guyana’s interior

Three persons were critically injured Tuesday morning when a United States-registered light aircraft crashed on take off from an airstrip at the remote interior mining location of Arau, a senior official of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) said.

The nationality of the passengers was not immediately available. The incident occurred about 11:14 AM. The single-engine Piper PA-28 Cherokee aircraft bears registration number N87619

The Guyanese pilot, Bernard Singh, was not severely injured but the three passengers were badly injured and arrangements were being made to medivac them to the city. The GCAA officials and the pilot were in contact via satellite phone.

Back in 2009, Singh was lost in the jungle in the Chi-Chi area, Mazaruni for five days.
