Brothers on drug trafficking charges

The police crackdown on suspected drug yards on Monday saw two brothers being charged with cocaine and marijuana trafficking.

They are 25-year old Curtly Thomas of Chelsea Park, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara anbd Clifforf Thomas of Bachelors Adventure, East Coast Demerara.

They pleaded guilty to two joint charges and two separate charges. Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry remanded them to prison until March 13 when they will appear at the Vigilance Magistrates’ Court.

The prosecution’s case is that on March 7 at West Middle Walk, Bachelors Adventure, the Thomas brothers had in their possession six grammes of cocaine and 17 grammes of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. 

Also March 7, Clifford Thomas allegedly had in his possession 35 grammes of cocaine for trafficking. Fourthly, Clifford allegedly had in his possession 325 grammes of marijuana for the same purpose.

The court was told that the police, acting on information, went to the Thomas’ home and searched the premises with their permission, resulting in the discovery of the drugs.

Defence Lawyer, Sandil Kissoon told the court that Clifford, a mason, resides at Bachelors Adventure with at least five other persons. He said his client was never oin the care or control of the drugs at any given time.. He saiud Curtly is self=-employed and resides at Chelsea Park, Mahaica with his father.
