A 32-year old Indian national on Thursday got off scotch-free from a domestic violence charge after his Guyanese wife refused to give evidence and forgave him because of love.

“I love my husband so much and it’s his first mistake,” Lilawattie Pooran told the court.

City Magistrate, Geeta Chandan-Edmond asked the woman during sworn testimony if the accused- Sunil Kumar- had threatened her or made any promises that resulted in her declining to give any evidence in the case.

The charge of assault against Kumar of 26 Success Housing Scheme was dismissed and he was freed for a lack of evidence.

The allegation was that on March 4 at Balwant Singh Hospital, East Street, Georgetown, he committed the offence against Pooran.
