MURDER ACCSED: Orin Kevin Roberts in blue long-sleeve shirt

A man was Tuesday arraigned for the alleged murder of well-known drug store owner, Harold Rachpaul, almost three years ago.

Orin Kevin Roberts was not required to plea to the indictable offence that he alleged murdered Rachpaul between August 18 and 19, 2011 in the furtherance of a burglary.

The incidents occurred in Rachpaul’s dwelling which was behind the drug store on Robb Street.

Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry remanded the accused to prison until March 24 for a report and fixture.

The date was set after Police Prosecutor Michael Grant told the court that the investigation was incomplete. The accused is represented by Attorney-at-Law, Adrian Thompson.

Grant credited the breakthrough in the case to the police force’s acquisition of the latest model of the Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (AFS).

Police Chief of Criminal Investigations, Deputy Police Commissioner Seelall Persaud told Demerara Waves Online News that Roberts’ fingerprint was found on a safe. However, he denied knowing Rachpaul and being at the crime scene.

Roberts’ fingerprints were taken in connection with a previous burglary for which he was acquitted.
