Cheddi Jagan International Airport

The Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) Wednesday morning busted a Guyanese woman with cocaine in achar shortly before she was about to board a flight to Canada where she resides, the airport said in a statement.

The Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) said the 24 year-old woman was arrested after anti drug agents “discovered a quantity of cocaine in the
guise of achar in one of her luggage”.

The bust was made shortly after 5 AM before the woman was about to board a Caribbean Airlines flight, BW 525.

“The permanent Canadian citizen is currently assisting police with their investigations,” said the airport. She is the third person in recent weeks who has been arrested allegedly attempting to smuggle cocaine in achar.

The discovery of the cocaine comes on the heels of the arrest and subsequent charge of Tishana Edwards who on February 23 was allegedly caught with 2.092 kilogrammes of cocaine in cream liqueur.

CJIA’s management says it again applauds the law enforcement officers in their ongoing pursuit to curb the narco-trafficking trade.
