“Money changer” gunned down, robbed

The “money changer” was robbed of GUY$1 million after he was shot dead by one of two gunmen early Thursday morning, police said.

Investigators said that about 8:10 AM, money-changer 42-year old Brijlall Persaud if Herstelling, East Bank Demerara was driving his motor vehicle along Lombard Street when he was attacked by two men.

One of them fired several shots at Persaud, police said, hitting him to the head and other parts of his body before making off with a bag containing about GUY$1 million in cash.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

He is the latest victim of a gradually escalating wave of gun robberies especially in A Division that includes the capital city, Georgetown.
