One teenager and a young adult were Thursday charged with the murder of a taxi driver whose body was dumped at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara.

Those charged are a 16-year old boy of Charlestown and 21-year old Michael Bishop of Albouystown, Georgetown.

They are accused of the murder of Raphael Campbell of Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara on January 5.

The teenager and Bishop were remanded to prison until February 14 by Sparendaam Magistrate, Alex Moore.

The two were among five persons who had been arrested on the Linden-Soesdyke Highway the same day of the killing. After disobeying orders by a police patrol to stop, they were chased and eventually drove into a ditch where they were arrested.

Deputy Police Commissioner, Seelall Persaud has said that investigators subsequently ascertained the owner of the car. He then informed police that he had rented the vehicle to Campbell.

At the time of his death, Campbell had been working the privately registered car as a taxi.
