Residents and businesses on the Essequibo Coast are complaining bitterly about blackout for more than 11 hours.

A Guyana Power and Light (GPL) Manager said two insulators broke down in the 11 KV cubicle at the Anna Regina Power Station. Other sources said rodents were found in a back-up piece of vital equipment.

The manager said every effort was being made to restore power to the densely populated area by 7 O’clock Tuesday night.

The manager said a team of technicians from Georgetown have been working along with their counterparts at the power station on the Essequibo Coast to repair and clean up the area.

The problem developed during the pre-dawn hours of Tuesday.

Several residents said that due to the prolonged power outage many landline telephones were not working.
