The sole authorized dealer of a reputable brand of American-made sound equipment, Bose, on Tuesday discouraged Guyanese from buying products from unauthorized persons and entities.

Chief Executive Officer of Gizmos and Gadgets, Ravi Mangar told reporters that full warranty and after sales and service for Bose sound products would be available.

“We give you the after sales service that you deserve,” he said. Company officials said after sales service would be available only for products sold by Gizmos and Gadgets.

Using strict pricing rules, sales and discounts in keeping with Bose’s rules, Mangar said the cost of the variety of Bose products would be the same as in the United States (US) and other countries.

However, the 16 percent Value Added Tax (VAT) is applicable.

Marketing Manager, Ewart Sampson said his company was banking on the reputation of Gizmos to have customers purchase Bose products only from that store.

Bose is a United States-headquartered company with branches and stores around the world.

Gizmos and Gadgets officials say they have been working for the past five years to bring Bose to Guyana. The Framingham, Massachusetts-based company is yet to conduct an on-site inspection of Gizmos and Gadgets.

Products include earplugs, headphones, surround sound systems and Bluetooth speakers.

The company also produces audio equipment for auditoriums, hotels, performance centres, places of worship, restaurants, schools, stadiums and other venues.

In the 1950s, Dr. Amar G. Bose was a grad student at MIT, and a classical music enthusiast. To reward himself for his studies, after careful consideration he purchased a new home stereo system that he hoped would deliver the realism of live music. Though the speakers he chose carried impressive technical specs, they didn’t deliver in real life.
