Home Affairs Minister Clement Rohee

Home Affairs Minister Clement Rohee is still ill and has been absent from his desk since November 7.

Rohee was booked to travel to New York early Monday morning but he did not turn up for the flight, according to sources close to the Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) of which he is its General Secretary. Sources said he wanted to travel to the US to undergo further tests.

While his office had notified the media that he would have been at the Opening of the 4th meeting of the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative Commission, he was a no-show.

Instead, Prime Minister Samuel Hinds addressed the event at the Guyana International Conference Centre (GICC), Liliendaal but not before he announced that Rohee was still ill.

“My colleague, the Minister of Home Affairs the Honourable Mr. Clement Rohee, has had some health challenges which he is seeking to have resolved,” said Hinds.

Ever since Rohee was rushed to the Woodlands Hospital 11 days ago, his illness has been shrouded in official secrecy.

As late as September 12, 2013; the 63-year old Rohee had expressed confidence in being fit to perform his duties as minister and de facto leader of the governing party.

“Now, I have two jobs to do. I have so arranged my life and I’ve so arranged my time to ensure that neither side is short-changed and the health and vitality of the General Secretary and the Minister of Home Affairs remain intact,” he had told a news conference.
