Forensic lab equipment stolen

The equipping of the Forensic Laboratory has been hit by a massive theft of equipment and the police have been called in.

The Home Affairs Ministry on Wednesday said the equipment was discovered missing on September 9 from a storage area at the Citizen Security Programme Office located at Ogle, East Coast Demerara.

They include a quantity of Information Technology (IT) equipment such as computers and related equipment.

“Some of the equipment were earmarked for the New Forensic Laboratory.

The Guyana Police Force is currently conducting investigations into the matter,” the Home Ministry added.

The ministry recently announced that contracts have been awarded for the procurement of laboratory equipment for the facility which is located at the back of the University of Guyana’s Turkeyen Campus.
