A woman’s throat was slashed allegedly by her ex-boyfriend immediately after she exited a church in the city.

43-year old Denise Hope of Tucville, Georgetown was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where up to 8:15 AM she was undergoing emergency surgery. She was also stabbed to her back.

Her condition was listed as critical.

The incident occurred outside the Universal Church (formerly Strand Cinema) on Charlotte and Wellington Streets, Georgetown.

Her daughter told Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com) that the suspected assailant is Godfrey Lammy, a taxi driver. She said he fled the scene shortly after attacking her mother.

The court two months ago granted a restraining order against Lammy after he had allegedly repeatedly threatened her.
