The Deputy Head teacher of Grove Primary School collapsed and died Friday morning during a march for World Teachers Day being observed Saturday.

Dead is 50-year old Carletta Blair.

Demerara Waves Online News was told that around 10 AM Friday teachers from schools along the East Bank Demerara assembled on the public road at Grove in the vicinity of A Ally and Sons General Store and headed south along the roadway towards Diamond.

Around 11 am the educators headed east into the Diamond Housing scheme and, according to an eyewitness, the woman collapsed as the group passed the M&M food stand at the head of the housing scheme.

She was placed in a taxi and taken to the nearby Diamond Diagnostic Centre but reports are that she died even before she arrived at the health post.

The rally continued and teachers were stunned when a minute’s silence was called for their colleagues passing. World Teachers Day is being observed Saturday.

Locally, teachers from across Guyana were honoured at various forums this week.
