Pastor’s son dies in collision

The son of a pastor was early Monday morning killed in collision between two cars in Georgetown.

The dead man has been identified as 34-year old Joel Baynes of Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara.

He was the son of Reverend Franklyn Baynes of the Mount Olivet Wesleyan Church, Nabaclis, East Coast Demerara.

The husband and father of two children was a former student of Annandale Secondary School.

Up to the time of his death, he was associated with Indian Chief Taxi Service where he worked on commission.

Police said at about 2:15 AM Monday, motor car HB 9018 was proceeding east along Robb Street, while PNN 1530 was proceeding south along Wellington Street. The driver of PNN 1530 failed to stop at the intersection and collided with HB 9018.
 
As result Baynes, who was driving motor car HB 9018, received injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
 
The driver of motor car PNN 1530 is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
 
 Baynes’ car damaged a parked car and slammed into a nearby computer store on Robb and Wellington Streets.
