A man allegedly burnt down his house on the West Bank Demerara after his wife went to the police station to make a domestic violence report, according to sources.

The fire occurred at 548, 99th Street, Parfaite Harmonie. Two neighbouring houses were damaged by the blaze that began shortly before 8 PM.

Neighbours said the suspected arsonist rode away from the scene on a bicycle. It was not immediately clear whether he was subsequently arrested.

The incident stemmed from a quarrel between the common-law spouses, Godfrey- a security guard at a secondary school in Georgetown- and Sherry, said to be a vendor at Parika, East Bank Essequibo.
