A former aeronautical engineer was early Saturday morning killed in a road accident on the West Coast Demerara, according to well-placed sources.

The dead man has been identified as 29-year old Asif Hussein of Independence Street, La Grange, West Bank Demerara. He was a graduate of the Art Williams and Harry Wendt Aeronautical Engineering School and later worked with Air Services Limited until last year.

The accident occurred when the car he was travelling in slammed into a utility pole and ended up in a trench at La Union, West Coast Demerara.

The other occupants of the car were 20-year old Abdul Masud Khan of Independence Street, La Grange and 24-year old James Pasraj of La Grange, West Bank Demerara.

It is unclear whether the dead man or Pasraj was driving the car. Pasraj claims Hussein was driving the vehicle and Khan says Hussein was the man at the wheel at 12:30 am Saturday when the accident occurred.

Pasraj was said to be under the influence of alcohol. Khan, who complained of pains, was released from custody to seek medical attention.

Investigators are expected to decide their next steps following an autopsy on Hussein’s body early next week.
