Police are investigating the suspected murder of a woman whose home was later torched by the perpetrators at Diamond housing scheme today.

The woman has been identified as 36-year old Sirmattie Ramnaress of  2430, 21st Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara.

The woman’s husband- Police Sergeant Bailey of Vigilance Police Station, East Coast Demerara- was assisting investigators as they comb the scene for clues.

Persons in the area observed smoke emanating from the house around  9:30 AM  and the fire service was later summoned.

It was during the firemen’s response that the woman’s body was discovered.  Police said Ramnaress’ body was found in her home with injuries to her head and left hip.

“The house was ransacked and drenched with a flammable liquid and a storage bond at the rear of the building was destroyed by fire,” police said.

Her motor car was found abandoned on the public road at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara.
