A Guyanese policeman, who allegedly withdrew a large quantity of cash from a teacher’s bank account after he forgot his card in the ATM machine, was Tuesday arrested, according to police sources.

Constable Gordon Andrews, who is based at the Tactical Services Unit (TSU), was taken into custody and placed under close arrest to assist with the probe that has sent shockwaves among his colleagues who know him.

The privately-owned Kaieteur News newspaper has reported that Andrews has since returned the GUY$63,000 that he had pilfered from Deandre Anderson’s account.

The incident occurred on July 22 at Republic Bank’s New Market Street ATM. Anderson had reportedly only uplifted his transaction receipt, leaving behind his VISA Card.

Images were later released showing Andrews withdrawing the money while keeping an eye out to see if Anderson would have returned.

Other members of the Guyana Police Force are outraged at Anderson’s action. “I felt so ashamed and knowing the fact that I am a policewoman makes it even worse.”
