Two fires of unknown origin have left one miner homeless and another man burnt to death, authorities said.

Police said that a man whose only name has been given as Martin was killed by fire that also destroyed his house at Grant 1780, Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice.

That fire occurred around 1:40 AM Sunday.

Investigators are also probing what led to Patrick Vyphuis’ home at Soesdyke Back Road being destroyed by fire around 11:40 PM.

His house and its contents were burnt around 11:40 Saturday night, just hours after the 34-year old man left for a gold mine.

No electricity was connected to the dwelling. A woman, who neighbours said was seen entering the house twice, has been arrested. Vyphuis is expected to return to Soesdyke to assist in the probe
