Two die in road accidents hours apart

A motorcyclist and a pedestrian died on Guyana’s roads in two accidents little more than four hours apart.

They have been identified as 60-year old James Hackett of Phoenix Park, West Bank Demerara and 37-year old Jagdeo Thakurdeen of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara.

Police said that about 5:30 PM Sunday, Hackett was driving his motor cycle along the Den Amstel Public Road, WCD, when he lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a concrete bridge.
 
He received injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.

Thakurdeen was struck down by a motor car as he was walking along the Good Hope Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara.  He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
 
The driver abandoned the motor vehicle and fled the scene. He has not yet been arrested.
 
Investigations are in progress.
