The Police Cadet Officer, who allegedly struck down an elderly man and killed him, was Monday arraigned on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.

He has not been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

Police Cadet Officer James Tappin pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted GUY$10,000 bail by Sparendaam Magistrate, Alex Moore.

Tappin was involved in a fatal accident that occurred on the Better Hope Public Road, on Sunday June 23, 2013, in which 71-year old Canerjit Sanichar of Better Hope lost his life.

Now that an autopsy has been performed on Sanichar’s body, police would be seeking advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions before charging Tappin with allegedly causing death by dangerous driving.
