A man was allegedly robbed of GUY$5.5 million that he was taking to the bank for his employer, police said.

No one has been arrested, but the rented car used in the heist was found abandoned at Number 60 Village Public Road, Corentyne.

Police said that about 1:50 Monday afternoon, 43-year old Zamin Zakeer of Albion, Corentyne, was taking the cash, which belonged to his employer to a bank, when he was allegedly held up by two men in a motor car on the Albion Access Road.

One of them was said to have been armed with a gun. “The perpetrators then took away the cash and escaped,” Guyana Police Force spokesman, Ivelaw Whittaker said in a statement.
