A Canada-born Guyanese and a veteran battery serviceman were Sunday recovering from gunshot injuries during the invasion of their home at a Festival City, Georgetown.

They are 31-year old Ruth Rodney, who is pursuing a PhD in Global Health at the University of Toronto and 67-year old George Grimes who is vehicle battery serviceman at Fraser’s Battery Service.

Rodney was shot to her abdomen and Grimes sustained gunshot injuries to a leg and shoulder.

Police took away one knife and several spent shells from the house at 1858 Nutmeg Street, Festival City.

Grimes’ wife, Enid, said Rodney and her son, Kevin Grimes and a friend were seated on the veranda with a laptop when three men entered the yard and the house.

Though they did not get to ransack the house, they robbed the occupants of their jewels and one laptop.

Enid said Kevin and her husband eventually pushed the man closer to the door when he pretended to fall down. At the same time, he pulled out a gun and fired three bullets “bap, bap, bap”.

Enid, who was slapped by one of the bandits, said the two other thieves were shouting “kill them, kill them.”
