UPDATED: ISA Islamic Academy, Mae’s Under 12 top ‘Common Entrance’

Last Updated on Saturday, 26 December 2015, 21:01 by GxMedia

Minister of Education Priya Manickchand

The top student in this year’s National Grade Six Assessment (‘Common Entrance’) is Salma Majeed of the ISA Islamic Academy with 548 marks.

The number two spot goes to Christian Pile of Mae’s Under 12 with 547 marks while Navindra Persaud of Mae’s Under 12 School secured third with 545 marks.

Places four, five and six went to three students from Mae’s Under 12. They are Ashtmi Natasha Deo with 543, Brandon Chanderban with 542 and Zane Ramotar with 541.

Also tying for sixth were Leshanna Bindah of Stella Maris Primary and Abdur Ramhman Sattaur of Al Ghazali Islamic Academy.

Divya Jagroo of Graham’s Hall Primary, Daniel Baldeo-Thorne of the New Guyana School and Renee Bisnauth of Cropper Primary all scored 540 marks.

The results were announced by Minister of Education Priya Manickchand at a news conference Friday afternoon. She relayed that she had informed President Donald Ramotar of the student’s performance and he said that he was “extremely proud.”

“(He) has asked me to announce that …every child who scored in the top one percent will receive a laptop computer,” Manickchand said. The top one percent comprises 173 students with 93 of them being females and 80 males.

Schools in the city and its environs were Friday collecting their results while the regional officials from locations further afield were doing the same for their regions. It is expected that parents should be able to access the results from Monday.

Sixteen thousand, 811 students wrote this year’s exam with the results they would have obtained at the Grades Two and Four exams combined to determine their secondary school placements.

The summary released by the education ministry is reproduced below showing the top national and regional performers. You can also view the summary in pdf format by clicking here.

NATIONAL GRADE SIX ASSESSMENT 2013

The results of the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) written on 25 March and 26 March 2013 will be released to schools shortly. Sixteen thousand eight hundred and eleven (16,811) candidates were entered for this assessment. These candidates also wrote the National Grade Two Assessment in 2009 and the National Grade Four Assessment in 2011. The results being released give a report on the candidates’ overall performance at the three assessments.

A percentage of the marks gained at the Grade Two and the Grade Four Assessments was combined with the marks gained at the Grade Six Assessment in order to determine the candidates’ overall scores. Five percent (5%) of each candidate’s Grade Two score in Mathematics and English, and ten percent (10%) of the Grade Four score in the same subjects, were added to eighty five percent (85%) of each candidate’s score in those subjects. The combined scores in Mathematics and English were added to the scores gained in Science and Social Studies.

The highest possible standardized scores obtainable were Mathematics – 134 English – 146, Social Studies – 138, and Science – 142. The highest possible total score obtainable was 560.

Details of the candidates securing the top 10 marks are indicated below:
