Ailing APNU parliamentarian Richard Allen has resigned making way for the coalition to swear in another representative in the National Assembly which the combined opposition parties control with a one seat majority.

Clerk of the National Assembly Sherlock Isaacs confirmed Tuesday morning that he had received a letter outlining APNU’s intention from Leader of the Opposition and APNU Chairman David Granger.

“I received a letter not too long ago from Mr. Granger saying that Mr. Richard Allen has resigned and he’s replace him with Ms. Renita Williams,” Isaacs said.

He added that a response to Granger has been drafted. One of the options open to the APNU is to have Williams fill the vacancy on a temporary basis until Allen is well enough to return but Isaacs said he was informed whether the resignation was an interim measure.

Williams hails from Moruca, Region One and was part of the APNU’s National Top-up List.

Allen collapsed in the National Assembly during debate on the budget estimates and was rushed to the hospital where he was reportedly diagnosed with hypertension. DemWaves understands that up to Tuesday afternoon Allen was still hospitalised.
